
The Karnataka School Education Department has announced a major relief for students and parents by declaring a 19-day Dasara vacation for schools across the state, in accordance with the 2026-27 academic calendar. The holiday will begin on October 3 and continue until October 21. Karnataka Schools Will Close From Tomorrow For 19 days.
As per the academic schedule, October 2 is a public holiday on account of Gandhi Jayanti. The official Dasara vacation will commence on October 3 and conclude on October 21, following the celebration of Vijayadashami. Schools will reopen on October 22, marking the start of the second academic term.
The holiday applies to all government, aided, and unaided primary and high schools following the Karnataka State syllabus. According to the annual academic calendar issued by the School Education Department, the first academic term runs from May 29 to October 2. The second academic term will be held from October 22, 2026, to April 10, 2027.
The summer vacation is scheduled from April 11 to May 28, 2027. The academic year includes 245 working school days and 119 holidays. District authorities have also been given the flexibility to modify holiday schedules based on local weather conditions or other regional requirements.
Karnataka is gearing up for the world-renowned Mysuru Dasara, one of India’s grandest cultural festivals. This year’s celebrations will feature special worship of Goddess Chamundeshwari, the spectacular illumination of the Mysore Palace, and a series of cultural events showcasing the state’s rich heritage.
The highlight of the festivities will be the historic Jumboo Savari procession on Vijayadashami, during which the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari will be carried in the Golden Howdah atop a beautifully decorated elephant. Thousands of devotees and tourists are expected to witness this iconic procession, which remains the centrepiece of the Mysuru Dasara celebrations.
