Sexual Harassment Incident on KSRTC Bus: Accused Apprehended by Co-passengers and Handed Over to Police

Sexual Harassment: In a disturbing incident that unfolded aboard a KSRTC bus, a woman doctor traveling from Doddaballapura to Bengaluru was allegedly subjected to sexual harassment by a fellow passenger.

The accused, identified as Fairoz Khan (46), a silk merchant from Doddaballapura, was apprehended by co-passengers and handed over to the Sanjaynagar police. According to the complaint filed by the victim, a resident of Bhuvaneshwarinagar in Dasarahalli, the incident occurred on October 2 during her evening commute.

Khan, who boarded the same bus, sat beside the doctor and allegedly behaved inappropriately as the vehicle approached Esteem Mall in Hebbal. Police reports state that Khan touched the victim’s chest and thigh in a public setting, causing her severe distress.

Shocked and shaken, the doctor immediately informed her brother over the phone and alerted the bus driver about the incident. Her brother then contacted the police control room, reporting the misconduct. Responding swiftly, the control room relayed the information to Hoysala patrol officers, who intercepted the bus near Baptist Hospital and detained the accused.

Following his arrest, Khan was taken to the Sanjaynagar police station where his statement was recorded. He was later released on station bail. Police have registered a case under relevant sections pertaining to sexual harassment and are continuing their investigation.

The incident has sparked concern over the safety of women in public transport, prompting calls for stricter surveillance and quicker response mechanisms. Authorities have urged passengers to report any such misconduct immediately and assured that swift action will be taken against offenders.

The victim is currently receiving support, and police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining safety for all commuters.
