R-Day Violence in Delhi: 2 farmer unions withdraw support from protests

New Delhi: Farmer Union leaders are under the radar of the Delhi Police after violent protests rocked the national capital on January 26 during the farmers’ tractor march. In a major development, the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee and farmer leader Sardar VM Singh have withdrawn support from the ongoing farmers protests against the 3 new farm laws.

In its FIR, the Delhi Police has mentioned the names of farmer leaders Darshan Pal, Rajinder Singh, Balbir Singh Rajewal, Buta Singh Burjgil and Joginder Singh Ugraha for breach of NOC issued regarding farmers’ tractor rally. FIR also mentions the name of BKU spokesperson Rakesh Tikait.

Meanwhile, a few farmer leaders have disassociated themselves from the violent protests, saying it was high-handedness of the Delhi Police and paramilitary forces that led to violent clashes. The Delhi Police is scanning the mobile phone recordings and CCTV footages from areas where violence broke out to identify the suspects.

Meanwhile, the total number of FIRs file in connection with the violence rose to 22 on Wednesday, said the Delhi Police.
