Jodhpur: A 48-year-old man and his 45-year-old woman allegedly ended their lives by hanging themselves at their residence in Masuriya area of Jodhpur on Sunday morning after their married son eloped with a girl of their own ‘gotra’.
The deceased, identified as Vishnudutt and his wife Manju Devi stayed with their two sons in Mansuriya’s Shramikpura under the territorial limits of Dev Nagar police station. Both sons of the couple are married. Three days back, the younger son ran away from home with a girl of the same ‘gotra’, causing a sense of social stigma in the couple, Dev Nagar police station SHO Som Karan said.
“The younger son eloped with a girl of their own community and ‘gotra’ three days ago and the couple was under stress due to this step of their married son,” The SHO said that the now-deceased couple attended to routine morning chores before taking the extreme step. Their older son raised an alarm after he found them hanging from the ceiling fan of their room.
Their relatives who live nearby rushed to their house and took them to a hospital where the medics pronounced them brought dead, the SHO said.
Another incident
In another incident, a 16-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself in Dholpur district last week after being allegedly gang-raped by two youths. The deceased girl’s father has registered a complaint against Bunty (23) and Harkesh (20), accusing them of entering his house and sexually assaulting his minor daughter.
SP Dholpur Kesar Singh they picked up the two youth after receiving the complaint from the suicide victim’s father. During interrogation, the two confessed that they had gone to meet the girl last night, the SP added.
