Yadgir: A mediation meeting over a love marriage turned violent near the old district court in Yadgir town when a man stabbed four people with a knife. The accused, identified as Mallappa alias Nirmal from Nagalapur village, attacked the victims during a heated argument, leaving three of them critically injured.
The injured have been identified as Peerappa, Mallappa, and Mallesh from Honagera village, along with another relative. Among them, Peerappa sustained serious injuries to his abdomen and hand. All the victims have been shifted to GIMS Hospital, Kalaburagi, for treatment.
According to police, the incident stemmed from a love marriage between Mallareddy and Shobha, who had fallen in love while working together in Bengaluru. The couple secretly got married at a temple in the city without informing their families. When the matter came to light, both families decided to organize a panchayat (community meeting) to resolve the issue and hold another formal wedding in the presence of elders.
However, during today’s meeting, tempers flared between members of both families. Accused Nirmal, who was reportedly instrumental in arranging the couple’s marriage, was confronted and abused by Shobha’s relatives, who blamed him for the union. The verbal clash escalated into violence, leading Nirmal to attack four people with a knife.
Police have registered a case at Yadgir Town Police Station and arrested the accused. Investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the stabbing.
