Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), — A major gold theft has been reported from Robertsonpet after two Rajasthan-based workers allegedly fled with jewellery worth ₹1.31 crore from P. Bastimal Bohra Jewellery store. The shop owner, Nitish Kumar, has filed a complaint with the Robertsonpet police, who have launched an investigation.
According to police sources, the accused have been identified as Surendra and Yash, both hailing from Rajasthan. Surendra had previously worked at Nitish Kumar’s residence since 2019 before quitting his job after a year. Last week, he contacted Nitish’s brother and business partner, Vinod Kumar, claiming he knew a trustworthy young man seeking employment. Trusting Surendra’s word, Vinod hired Yash, who arrived from Bikaner, Rajasthan. However, crucially, the shop owners did not collect any identification documents such as Aadhaar or address proof from Yash.
The theft occurred on Wednesday during Diwali cleaning at the store. Yash was helping with the cleaning work when he went upstairs on the pretext of arranging ornaments. Taking advantage of the moment, he allegedly stuffed gold jewellery into his shirt and pants before casually walking out of the shop. When he did not return after a long time, the owners grew suspicious and called him, but his phone was switched off.
Upon checking the second floor, the owners found several empty jewellery boxes lying near the restroom. Attempts to contact Surendra also failed, as his phone, too, was switched off.
Preliminary checks revealed that around 1.93 kilograms of gold, valued at approximately ₹1.31 crore, was missing.
District Superintendent of Police Shivanshu Rajput and DySP Lakshmaiah visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Police teams have been deployed to trace the absconding suspects, and CCTV footage is being examined to track their movements.
