Gang rape case: Court awarded death sentence to two accused

Pratapgarh: A POCSO court in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district has awarded death sentence to two accused of gang rape and attempted murder of a minor girl.The verdict was announced within 11 months for the crime that took place on December 27, 2021. Also, the court fined the two accused Rs 50,000 each for raping an 11-year-old girl and damaging her left eye and facial and leg bones.Gang rape case: Court awarded death sentence to two accused.

After receiving the report, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed swift action against the culprits. The POCSO court concluded the trial within 10 months and on October 21, 2022 convicted the two accused – Haleem and Rizwan – of rape, kidnapping and attempted murder of a minor girl. .According to the prosecution, the three accused – Haleem, Rizwan and another, after raping and seriously injuring the minor girl, threw her on the railway track and fled. As one of the accused was a minor, his case was transferred to the Juvenile Court.

A criminal case has been registered under sections 326 (injury), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 363 (abduction) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and POCSO Act at Nawabganj police station in Pratapgarh district. The brother of the girl who is the complainant in this case rushed his unconscious sister to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj. When she regained consciousness five days later, the survivor gave a statement before the police, identifying the three accused behind the gruesome incident.
