Bengaluru : In a dramatic operation, the Subramanyapura Police successfully rescued a college student and arrested five accused who had kidnapped her after she rejected a marriage proposal. The accused were nabbed within just 12 hours of the incident, police said on Friday.
According to police reports, the incident took place at Chikkallasandra, where the victim, a first-year Chartered Accountancy (CA) student, lived with her mother. On the evening of October 8, a gang led by the main accused, Ranganath, allegedly barged into the girl’s house wielding lethal weapons. The gang attacked the girl’s mother, who tried to resist, and abducted the young woman in an autorickshaw before fleeing the scene.
Following a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Inspector Raju M.S. and his team launched an immediate investigation. The police tracked the accused to Tamil Nadu and arrested all five — Ranganath, Rajesh, Chandan, Shreyas, and Manjunath. The police also seized an autorickshaw and two motorcycles used in the abduction.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Ranganath, who works as a bike mechanic, was previously arrested in a murder case by Byatarayanapura Police in 2024 and had recently been released on bail six months ago. Police said Ranganath had been harassing the victim’s family for over a month, insisting that he wanted to marry her. He had reportedly visited her home twice, creating disturbances when her parents refused his demand for marriage.
Determined to marry the girl against her will, Ranganath allegedly plotted the abduction with his associates. He convinced them that it was a “love issue” and persuaded them to help him kidnap the girl. The gang executed their plan on the evening of October 8 and took the victim to Tamil Nadu, where Ranganath reportedly intended to forcefully marry her.
Acting swiftly, the Subramanyapura Police tracked their movements using technical surveillance and apprehended the accused before they could carry out their plan. The rescued girl has been reunited with her family, and all five accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
Senior police officials praised the rapid response of the investigation team and confirmed that further inquiry is underway to determine whether any additional individuals were involved in the conspiracy.
