Electricity Bill Hike: MP BY Raghavendra and many other BJP leaders who were protesting in Shivamogga city against the increase in electricity rates were detained by the police. BJP leaders were protesting and trying to lay siege to the MESCOM office in the city when they were arrested.

The protestors shouted slogans against the Congress party which came to power with false promises. On the 18th of this month, BJP workers will hold a massive protest against the electricity price hike under the leadership of former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and former Minister KS Eshwarappa.

The launch of registration for the Gruha Jyothi scheme, which was scheduled to begin on June 15, Thursday, has now been postponed to June 18, Sunday. It has now been postponed to fortify the Seva Sindhu portal and the app, sources said.

The Energy department is expecting to receive around 5-10 lakh applications every day for the scheme. The Karnataka Gruha Jyoti Scheme is a government initiative designed to provide free electricity to residents of Karnataka, India.

The scheme guarantees 200 units of free electricity to citizens, and it will be implemented from July 1st of this financial year. The main objective of the scheme is to reduce electricity costs and improve the standard of living for individuals and families across the state.

To avail the benefits of the scheme, consumers need to register on the Seva Sindhu portal. They will need to provide their Aadhaar number, connection ID, and rent or lease agreement (in case of tenancy). The benefits can also be availed by showing address proof on Voter’s ID.

The scheme is expected to cost the state government around Rs 13,000 crore per year. However, the government has said that it is committed to providing free electricity to its citizens.
