Haveri : A major tragedy was averted after a state transport bus travelling from Bengaluru to Gadag caught fire near Devaragudda village in Ranebennur taluk of Haveri district on Tuesday. Thanks to the timely action of the driver, all 17 passengers on board managed to escape unhurt.

According to initial reports, the Pallakki bus had departed from Bengaluru and was proceeding along the state highway towards Gadag when the incident occurred. As the bus approached Devaragudda, flames were suddenly noticed emerging from the vehicle, triggering panic among passengers.

Driver Fakirappa quickly assessed the situation and acted without delay. He immediately pulled the bus over to the side of the road and instructed passengers to evacuate. Within moments, all passengers safely disembarked, preventing what could have been a catastrophic incident.

Eyewitnesses stated that within minutes of the fire breaking out, the entire bus was engulfed in flames. The fire spread rapidly, reducing the vehicle to a blazing inferno. Transport staff attempted to control the fire but were unsuccessful due to its intensity.

Local residents gathered at the spot as thick smoke billowed into the sky. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

Ranebennur rural police rushed to the scene soon after receiving information and conducted a preliminary inspection. Authorities suspect a technical fault or short circuit might have triggered the fire, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed.
