Knife Point Robbery Targets Four Migrant Workers Near Electronic City in Bengaluru

Four migrant workers from West Bengal were allegedly robbed at knifepoint near Electronic City, with cash, mobile phones and digital payments stolen before the suspects fled the scene.

Police have launched an investigation after four migrant workers from West Bengal were allegedly robbed at knifepoint near Bettadasanapura in Bengaluru’s Electronic City area. The attackers are accused of stealing mobile phones, cash and money transferred through a digital payment application before escaping.

The incident reportedly took place on June 28 between 6.30 pm and 9.15 pm but came to light only after a complaint was filed with the police. Authorities have registered a case and are working to identify and trace the suspects involved.

According to the complaint, the victims had completed their work for the day and were standing together near Bettadasanapura when the incident unfolded. The four workers, identified as Yunus, Irfan Sheikh, Sabir Sheikh and Owaidur Islam Laskar, have been employed in Bengaluru for the past eight months.

Police said the sequence of events began when Sabir Sheikh was speaking on his mobile phone. Three unidentified men allegedly approached him and claimed that his friends had abused them. The suspects then demanded that he show photographs of his friends stored on the phone.

As Sabir attempted to respond, the men allegedly snatched his mobile phone and walked away. Sabir and his three companions followed them in an effort to recover the device, but the confrontation soon turned violent.

The complaint states that the suspects threatened the group with a knife and a wooden stick before assaulting them. They allegedly took away the mobile phones belonging to all four workers along with Rs 10000 in cash.

Before leaving the spot, the accused are also alleged to have forced one of the victims to transfer Rs 488 through a UPI payment. The workers further claimed that the attackers warned them against informing anyone about the incident and threatened them with serious consequences if they approached the authorities.

Electronic City police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to robbery and robbery involving the threat of grievous injury or death. Investigators are examining available evidence and conducting searches to identify the suspects responsible for the attack.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the safety concerns faced by migrant workers living and working in large urban centres, particularly while travelling or spending time in isolated areas after work. Police have appealed for information that could help trace the accused and advance the investigation.
