Tragedy in Belagavi: Couple dies on same day, three children orphaned

Belagavi: In a heartbreaking incident reported from Belagavi district, a young couple lost their lives on the same day under tragic circumstances, leaving behind three children orphaned and a family shattered by grief.

The deceased have been identified as Kareppa (36) and his wife Madhura (30), residents of Aravalli village in Bailhongal taluk. According to police sources, Madhura had been suffering from severe stomach pain for a long time. Unable to bear the pain, she reportedly consumed pesticide tablets in an apparent act of suicide.

Family members rushed her to the hospital in an attempt to save her life. However, Madhura is said to have died on the way, before receiving medical treatment. Her sudden death left the family in shock and disbelief.

In a tragic twist of fate, Kareppa, who was informed about his wife’s condition, immediately set out on his motorcycle to reach the hospital. Overcome with panic and urgency, he was reportedly riding at high speed when his bike met with an accident. Police said he came under the wheels of a bus during the mishap, leading to his death on the spot.

The back-to-back deaths of the couple on the same day have plunged the entire village into mourning. Relatives and locals gathered in large numbers, expressing grief over the devastating loss. Emotional scenes were witnessed as family members struggled to come to terms with the tragedy.

The couple, who had been married for around nine years, are survived by three children—two boys and a girl—who are now left without parental support. The incident has raised concerns about the lack of timely medical intervention and emotional support for individuals dealing with chronic health issues.

Locals revealed that just a day before the incident, the couple had bought new clothes for their children and household essentials, indicating no immediate signs of distress. However, Madhura’s ongoing health problems may have contributed to her extreme decision, though the exact reasons are yet to be confirmed.

A case has been registered at the Bailhongal police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects surrounding the incident.

This tragic episode underscores the importance of mental health awareness, timely medical care, and community support systems, especially in rural areas where access to healthcare and counselling remains limited. Authorities have urged people to seek help during distress and avoid taking extreme steps.
