Davanagere : The Davanagere South by-election has turned into a high-profile political battleground, with Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and former chief ministers intensifying their campaigns across the constituency. Amid soaring temperatures, leaders are engaging in aggressive campaigning, delivering fiery speeches to secure a crucial victory.
The bypoll, considered a significant indicator for the upcoming elections, has attracted heavy political deployment from both major parties. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah campaigned vigorously in support of the Congress candidate Samarth, addressing multiple public gatherings and roadshows in Nagar, Shiramagondanahalli, and Turchagatta.
During his campaign, Siddaramaiah urged voters not to support independent candidates, warning that such votes could indirectly benefit the BJP. He emphasized that the Congress party stands for the welfare of the poor, backward classes, and minorities, reinforcing the party’s commitment to inclusive governance.
“Do not waste your vote. Supporting independents will only help the BJP,” he reportedly told voters, a statement that has sparked fresh political debate. The Chief Minister’s remarks have also raised questions about the party’s strategy and outreach to minority communities.
Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar had already laid out a detailed campaign strategy, setting the tone for an intense electoral battle.
On the other side, the BJP has also stepped up its campaign efforts with a united front. Former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa, along with Basavaraj Bommai, held meetings with Arya Vysya community leaders to garner support for their candidate Srinivas.
Basavaraj Bommai conducted an open-vehicle roadshow, interacting with voters directly, while Yediyurappa launched a sharp attack on the state government, alleging poor governance. He asserted that the people of Davanagere South would deliver a strong message through the by-election results.
With the polling date approaching, the constituency has turned into a hotspot of political activity, with leaders from both sides making every effort to sway voters. The presence of senior leaders has further heightened the political atmosphere.
