According to reports, Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah has been launching attacks from Lebanon towards Israel. In response, Israel has been carrying out continuous airstrikes in southern Lebanon over the past few days.
The incident took place near the Al-Khasmiya bridge area, where a Russian journalist, identified as Sweeney, along with cameraman Al Rida, was delivering a live report. The location is believed to be close to a Lebanese military installation. While they were on air, an Israeli missile struck just behind them, causing a powerful explosion.
Shrapnel from the blast reportedly hit both the journalist and the cameraman, leaving them injured. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and are said to be out of danger. The footage captures the chaos and the narrow escape, underlining the risks faced by journalists covering war zones.
The incident has triggered a sharp reaction from Russia. Officials from Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the attack, alleging that the journalists were clearly identifiable as media personnel wearing press jackets. They accused Israel of violating international norms and targeting civilians and media workers.
Meanwhile, Israel has issued a clarification, stating that its strikes were part of ongoing military operations against militant positions in southern Lebanon. Israeli authorities said prior warnings had been issued, advising civilians to evacuate targeted areas well in advance.
The escalation comes amid broader tensions in West Asia, where attacks on energy infrastructure and strategic assets are adding to global uncertainty. With multiple countries now reacting strongly, fears are growing that the conflict could spiral further, impacting not just the region but global stability.
