Kadaba tops Dakshina Kannada in tax collection with 103% achievement

Kadaba (Dakshina Kannada): In a notable administrative achievement, Kadaba taluk has once again drawn statewide attention by emerging as the top performer in tax collection within Dakshina Kannada district. The taluk has recorded 103 per cent achievement in the current financial year, reinforcing its reputation as a consistent frontrunner since being declared a separate taluk.
For the financial year 2025–26, the taluk — comprising 21 gram panchayats — was assigned a tax collection target of ₹3.34 crore. Surpassing expectations, Kadaba has already collected over ₹3.41 crore, exceeding the target well before the close of the financial year. With nearly a month still remaining, officials say the figure could rise further.
Significantly, all 21 gram panchayats in Kadaba have achieved more than 100 per cent collection, reflecting coordinated efforts at the grassroots level. Among them, Subrahmanya Gram Panchayat has led the tally by collecting over ₹1 crore. Nelyadi has recorded ₹33 lakh, Kokradi ₹29 lakh, Ramakunja ₹20 lakh and Kutrupadi ₹19 lakh. Belandoor has collected ₹17 lakh, Savanur ₹16.5 lakh, Alankaru ₹16.4 lakh, while Bilinele and Marthala have each recorded ₹15 lakh in collections.
Officials attribute this success to comprehensive recovery of statutory taxes levied on commercial buildings, residential properties and industrial establishments. The timely payment of current year dues, without accumulation of fresh arrears, has been highlighted as a key factor behind the achievement.
Authorities also pointed to responsible public participation. Citizens effectively utilised the government’s early payment incentive of five per cent rebate offered during the initial three months of the fiscal year. This proactive response, officials say, demonstrates growing financial awareness and civic responsibility in rural areas.
In taluk-wise comparison across Dakshina Kannada district, Kadaba leads with 103 per cent, followed by Moodabidri (99%), Ullal (96%), Sulya (95%), Beltangady (94%), Mulki (91%), Puttur (90%), Bantwal (89%) and Mangaluru (85%). The district’s overall average collection stands at 92 per cent.
Reacting to the achievement, Kadaba Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Naveen Kumar Bhandari said the outstanding response from the public has played a crucial role. He emphasised that tax payment is essential for rural development and credited Panchayat Development Officers, staff and vigilant citizens for the collective success.
The consistent performance has positioned Kadaba as a model taluk in local revenue mobilisation and grassroots governance.
