BJP protest banners spark row as Vijayendra’s photo missing in Dharwad

Dharwad, : A protest organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Dharwad demanding the filling of vacant government posts has triggered a political controversy after banners put up during the agitation reportedly did not feature the photograph of state BJP president B. Y. Vijayendra, raising questions about internal dynamics within the party.
The protest, held on February 24, was organised in support of job aspirants awaiting recruitment into vacant government positions. The agitation began at Srinagar Circle and proceeded in the form of a rally through Jayanagar before culminating at Michigan Compound. Hundreds of party workers and job seekers participated in the demonstration, urging the state government to expedite recruitment and address unemployment concerns.
banners prominently featured national and state leaders
More than 40 banners were installed across key locations in Dharwad as part of the protest mobilisation. These banners prominently displayed photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president J. P. Nadda, former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashoka, and Legislative Council Opposition leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy.
At the lower section of the banners, photographs of local leaders including MLA Arvind Bellad and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi were also featured prominently. However, the absence of Vijayendra’s photograph from all banners has become the focal point of political debate.
questions raised over possible internal rift
The omission has sparked speculation within political circles, with some party insiders and observers questioning whether the exclusion was intentional or merely an oversight at the local organisational level. Allegations have also surfaced claiming that Vijayendra’s photograph was deliberately left out of official protest banners, with some suggesting that local leaders may have played a role in the decision.
This development has intensified discussions about possible factionalism within the Karnataka BJP unit, especially at a time when the party is attempting to strengthen its organisational structure and mobilise public support on key issues such as unemployment and governance.
party yet to clarify, speculation continues
So far, there has been no official clarification from state BJP leadership regarding the absence of the state president’s photograph on protest banners. Political observers note that such symbolic omissions often carry significant organisational and political implications, particularly in a party structure that places importance on hierarchy and leadership visibility.
The incident has raised broader questions about coordination between state and local units, as well as the internal cohesion of the party in Karnataka. Whether the omission was an organisational lapse or indicative of deeper internal tensions remains unclear, but the controversy has undoubtedly added a new dimension to the political discourse surrounding the Dharwad protest.
