Udupi: The Udupi District Court has sentenced ten illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to two years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10000 each for entering India without valid documents and creating fake Aadhaar cards to secure employment.
Those convicted include Hakeem Ali Suzjon SK Ismail SK Kareem SK Salam SK Rajikul SK Mohammad Sojib Rimul Mohammad Imam Sheikh and Mohammad Jahangir Alam
The arrests date back to October 11 2024 when the Malpe Police Sub Inspector who was on rounds noticed seven men behaving suspiciously with luggage near the Vadabandeshwara bus stand in Malpe. Upon questioning the men failed to produce any valid entry documents and were found carrying forged Aadhaar cards. They were immediately taken into custody.
During interrogation the accused revealed that they had illegally crossed into India from Bangladesh and later reached Udupi’s Hoode area in Paduthonse village. Acting on the information provided by the seven arrested men the police later detained three more illegal immigrants connected to the same network.
Investigations further uncovered a larger fake documentation racket. One individual identified as Kajol from Sikkim Agartala was responsible for generating the counterfeit Aadhaar cards that the immigrants used as identity proof.
Another accused Usman was reportedly facilitating the illegal entry of the Bangladeshi nationals into Udupi and arranging employment for them by using the forged documents.
The Malpe Police team has been credited for successfully busting the entire chain of illegal immigration document forgery and employment trafficking. Their swift action ensured that all ten individuals involved were traced arrested and brought before the court which has now delivered a firm verdict.
With the conviction the district administration and police have reiterated that strict surveillance will continue to curb the movement of illegal immigrants and the creation of fake identity documents in the coastal belt where such activities have seen a steady rise in recent years.
