Coastal Karnataka showers grand welcome on PM Modi during Udupi visit
Udupi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an extraordinary and emotional reception during his maiden visit to Udupi after assuming office. Coastal Karnataka turned festive as lakhs of people lined the roads, showering flowers and cheers on the Prime Minister, who arrived to participate in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana and visit Sri Krishna Math.
Modi, who landed in Mangaluru this morning in a special aircraft from New Delhi, was welcomed by Health and District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. He then flew to Udupi in an IAF helicopter, where thousands had already gathered around the helipad hours in advance. The Prime Minister arrived nearly 40 minutes ahead of schedule, intensifying the excitement among locals.
Massive roadshow from helipad to Krishna Math
A grand roadshow began the moment PM Modi stepped out of the helipad. The stretch from the helipad to Sri Krishna Math transformed into a sea of humanity. Lakhs thronged both sides of the road, waving flags, chanting slogans, and showering flowers on the Prime Minister. Many had come from neighbouring districts, some even camping overnight to catch a glimpse of their leader.
Modi responded warmly, waving continuously from atop his vehicle. At several points, he stopped the convoy and collected portraits of himself held by supporters, instructing SPG personnel to note down their addresses so he could send appreciation letters. His move drew loud applause from the crowd.
A spiritual visit with national message
The Prime Minister inaugurated the Suvarna Kanakana Kindi at Ratha Beedi and performed rituals at Madhva Sarovara before having darshan of Lord Krishna. He then participated in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana, a massive initiative that united people from diverse communities to chant the Bhagavad Gita.
Modi, addressing the gathering, called it a “historic spiritual moment” and urged citizens to take a Nine-Point National Resolve, essential for strengthening India ahead of 2047.
His nine appeals included:
- Water conservation
- Planting trees in the name of one’s mother
- Improving at least one poor person’s life
- Adopting swadeshi and promoting Vocal for Local
- Encouraging natural farming
- Choosing healthier lifestyle and millets
- Practising Yoga regularly
- Helping preserve ancient manuscripts
- Resolving to visit 25 sacred places in India
He noted that India’s cultural roots have strengthened under people’s participation and credited Udupi for its historic spiritual legacy. Referring to the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, Modi said, “Just days ago, we unfurled the Dharmadhwaja atop the Ram Mandir. Today, from Ayodhya to Udupi, crores of devotees feel blessed. The struggle and journey behind the temple is known to all.”
Udupi’s historic spiritual significance highlighted
PM Modi hailed Udupi as a “karma bhoomi of good governance” and remembered the contributions of leaders like VS Acharya. He appreciated Sugunendra Swamiji for conceptualising the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana and said the initiative would inspire the younger generation to connect with the Bhagavad Gita.
He also praised Udupi’s tradition of annadana, the spiritual depth of Madhwacharya’s teachings, and the devotional legacy of Kanakadasa and the Dasa tradition.
‘Dharma rakshana also means action against anti-nationals’
In a striking remark, Modi said that spiritual teachings also emphasise action against wrongdoers. “Along with giving the message of dharma, we also know how to wield the Sudarshana Chakra. Our mission is clear—those who act against the nation will face the consequences,” he said, drawing huge applause.

Referring to ongoing national security efforts, the Prime Minister added that “Operation Sindoor” reflects India’s determination to act decisively against anti-national elements.
The entire coastal region, especially Udupi, witnessed an unprecedented show of public affection, marking the visit as one of the grandest receptions PM Modi has received in Karnataka in recent years.
