IAS Officer Santosh Verma’s Controversial Statement on Brahmin Women Sparks Outrage

Bhopal: A senior IAS officer in Madhya Pradesh, Santosh Verma, has landed in a major controversy after making objectionable remarks about Brahmin women at a public meeting.

IAS Officer Santosh Verma’s Controversial Statement on Brahmin Women Sparks Outragestem for their community until a Brahmin father gives his daughter to his son-in-law, or until the son forms a relationship with her.

Verma’s comments have drawn severe criticism for being derogatory, particularly towards the Brahmin community. Pushpendra Mishra, the state president of the All India Brahmin Society, condemned the statement, calling it a “disgrace to the entire upper-caste community.”

He emphasized that marriage is a private matter, and everyone has the right to choose their spouse regardless of caste. “The officer’s remarks are highly objectionable, and such statements have no place in a modern society where inter-caste marriages are increasingly common,” he said.

Mishra further expressed disbelief at the officer’s audacity, stating that a woman is not an object to be ‘given away’ in the name of reservation. “Marriage is an entirely personal choice. What does reservation have to do with it? We are living in times when inter-caste marriages are becoming more frequent,” he added.

The controversy also stirred up calls for legal action against Verma. Ajay Kumar, the state president of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes Association, demanded an FIR be filed against Verma for his “disrespectful and criminal remarks” against Brahmin women. “If no action is taken, the Brahmin community will stage protests across the state,” he warned.

Verma’s controversial comments have ignited a larger debate about caste-based reservations and their relevance in contemporary society. The IAS officer has yet to comment on the ongoing backlash.
