Raichur: An illegal check post set up near the Tinthini Bridge in Devadurga has come under scrutiny after allegations surfaced that truck drivers transporting paddy were being extorted.
A complaint has been filed against the President of the Raichur APMC (Agricultural Produce Market Committee), Adanagouda Bunkaloddi, along with Vice-President Abdul Aziz, APMC General Secretary Neelappa Shetty, and two workers, Chandru and Ramesh, for allegedly collecting money from truck drivers without authorization.
According to the complaint, the accused individuals had set up an unauthorized check post at the Tinthini Bridge area, where paddy trucks were being stopped and extorted for money. The APMC has clarified that no official check post has been authorized for the inspection or control of agricultural produce transportation.
However, despite this, the illegal check post continued to function, and money was being forcibly collected from the truck drivers.
The extortion process reportedly involves collecting Rs 100 from each truck per day, amounting to Rs 5000-6000 a day from multiple trucks. Of this amount, Rs 1000 is allegedly given to the workers at the check post, while the remaining money is divided between the APMC President and the General Secretary.
The complaint was filed at the Jalahalli Police Station, and a formal investigation has been launched into the matter. Authorities are expected to take further action based on the findings.
