Bengaluru In a swift operation, Koramangala police cracked a sensational kidnapping case within 12 hours, arresting eight suspects and rescuing four call center employees who had been abducted for ransom.
The arrested include Chalapathi, Bharat, Pawan, Prasanna, Atheeq, and Jabhiulla. Shockingly, Chalapathi was identified as a head constable from Kolar district. Police said the gang had targeted employees of Global Connect Telecom Pvt. Ltd., a call center in Koramangala.
According to investigators, the gang approached the call center around midnight, posing as police officers. They threatened four employees — Pawan, Raj Veer, Akash, and Anas — and abducted them. The kidnappers demanded ₹25 lakh for their release and even managed to transfer ₹18 lakh from the company’s operations manager’s account.
The incident came to light when BPO staff alerted police around 4 a.m. Acting immediately, multiple teams launched a search. By 11 a.m., police traced the gang to a lodge in Hosakote, where the victims were being held. All four employees were rescued safely.
Along with the arrests, police seized two cars used in the crime. Investigators suspect the gang drew inspiration from a recent call center raid case and attempted to exploit the situation for quick money.
All the accused are reportedly between 27 and 30 years of age. Police Commissionerate officials praised the swift action, noting that the operation prevented a potential tragedy and exposed the involvement of serving personnel in organized crime.
The case has raised serious concerns about insider collusion and the growing trend of gangs targeting IT and BPO employees in Bengaluru.
