Police trace trail of Rs 7.11 crore heist suspects to Tirupati, two detained in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police have made significant progress in tracing the suspects involved in the sensational ₹7.11 crore cash heist, uncovering leads that point towards the gang’s presence in Tirupati.

According to police sources, the Bengaluru South Division teams have launched an extensive search operation in the temple town after receiving credible inputs about the suspects’ movement.

Tirupati police have also joined the operation, assisting local teams in checking hotels, lodges, and areas surrounding major temples. Officers in plain clothes have been deployed to scan suspicious locations, as investigators suspect the accused may have hidden the stolen cash elsewhere before fleeing to Tirupati.

Two held by CCB in Bengaluru
In a parallel development, the CCB has taken two men from Kalyan Nagar, Banaswadi, into custody for questioning. Investigation revealed that the robbers used a Uttar Pradesh-registered number plate while escaping, although the vehicle used during the heist carried a Karnataka registration number.

The probe further indicates that the suspects had used the number plate of a Swift car belonging to the Kalyan Nagar residents who are now being interrogated. Police believe the gang members spoke in Hindi during the robbery to mislead investigators. Based on CCTV footage and location-dumping analysis, the two suspects were detained for their suspected links to the getaway vehicle.

Did the gang follow the CMS vehicle from the bank?
The robbery, which has shocked the state, has prompted a massive multi-unit police operation. Four Joint Commissioners and 18 DCPs are overseeing the high-priority investigation. Personnel from Law & Order, CCB, and Traffic wings are jointly combing through all possible leads.

So far, officers have scrutinized more than 100 CCTV recordings across Bengaluru. The first crucial footage of the CMS cash van was captured shortly after it collected money from an HDFC Bank branch. Notably, the Innova car used by the robbers does not appear at the bank during the loading of the cash.

However, investigators suspect the gang may have tailed the van from a distance. There is also speculation that one or more members of the gang could have followed the CMS vehicle on a motorcycle from near the HDFC Bank. Police are now gathering details of all bikes seen in the vicinity during that period.

With searches intensifying in both Bengaluru and Tirupati, police believe they are closing in on the gang responsible for one of the city’s biggest recent robberies.
