Kalaburagi: In a tragic turn to the brutal assault case that shook Yadgir district earlier this week, former Shahabad City Municipal Council president and Social Welfare Department SDA officer Anjali Kambanoor (38) succumbed to her injuries late on Thursday.
She had been battling for life at a private hospital in Hyderabad following a murderous attack by unidentified assailants. The incident occurred on the morning of November 12, when Anjali was on her way to the Social Welfare office in Yadgir.
A group of armed miscreants intercepted her vehicle and launched a brutal assault using sharp weapons, leaving her critically injured. She was immediately shifted to Yadgir District Hospital and later referred to Hyderabad for advanced treatment.
Anjali, a resident of Shahabad in Kalaburagi district, had joined government service on compassionate grounds after her husband Girish Kambanoor was murdered two years ago. Her rise from personal tragedy to public service had earned her respect among colleagues. The latest tragedy has once again plunged the family and community into grief.
Yadgir Town Police registered a case soon after the attack, and a special investigation team (SIT) was formed to track down the perpetrators. Police officials have taken the case seriously, citing possible personal, political, or property-related motives. CCTV footage from various junctions in Yadgir city has been collected, and multiple teams are carrying out raids in suspected locations.
Senior police officials from both Kalaburagi and Yadgir districts visited the crime scene and the hospital, assuring swift justice. Meanwhile, public outrage has intensified as citizens and activists demand immediate arrest of those behind the planned attack.
Anjali’s body will be brought to Shahabad for final rites, where thousands are expected to pay their last respects.
