Rahul Gandhi maintains stability despite 95th defeat; Congress hits back at BJP criticism

Bengaluru: The 2025 Bihar Assembly election results have thrown the political spotlight sharply on the Congress party, as the BJP-led NDA secures a commanding lead across the state. With NDA leading in 200 constituencies, the Mahagathbandhan, led by Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi, manages to hold ground in only 36 seats.

Most BJP candidates have already crossed the victory line in several constituencies. BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya criticized Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, stating that this marks his 95th electoral defeat.

Despite a 16-day-long “Vote Officer Yatra” and repeated allegations against the Election Commission, the Mahagathbandhan failed to convince voters, leaving Congress in a state of disarray. Malviya added that Rahul Gandhi’s relentless claims of vote manipulation failed to yield any results at the ballot box.

Posting a detailed chart on social media, Malviya highlighted Rahul Gandhi’s consistent electoral losses. “Rahul Gandhi has been engaged in blame games from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, yet he needs five more defeats to complete a century of electoral setbacks,” he tweeted, sharing state-wise figures of Congress’ performance.

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, Congress had secured 19 seats, forming the second-largest alliance partner with RJD. However, this time, the party’s performance is drastically poor, holding only 4 seats so far. Analysts point out that the party’s internal disunity, leadership lapses, and failure to organize effective campaigns have contributed heavily to this humiliating defeat.

Political experts further note that Rahul Gandhi’s personal political activity and lack of coordinated strategy within Congress have weakened the party across key states. The defeat in Bihar raises serious concerns about the Mahagathbandhan’s prospects in upcoming state elections, including West Bengal.

The Mahagathbandhan’s limited success in only 36 seats highlights the deepening crisis within Congress. With no immediate solution for internal disputes and leadership restructuring, the party faces a long road ahead to regain voter confidence and political relevance.
