Two terrorists killed in Kupwara encounter as army foils infiltration bid near LoC
New Delhi: Two terrorists were gunned down by security forces in an ongoing anti-terror operation in the Keran sector of Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army confirmed the development through an official post on X, stating that troops successfully foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC).
According to army sources, the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the LoC. Troops deployed in the area noticed suspicious movement and challenged the individuals. In response, the infiltrators opened fire, triggering a fierce gunfight. Security personnel retaliated effectively, killing two terrorists on the spot.
The Chinar Corps, which oversees operations in the Kashmir valley, stated on X that “alert troops have neutralized two terrorists while foiling an infiltration attempt in the Keran sector of Kupwara.” The army has recovered weapons and other warlike stores from the site, and search operations are continuing to ensure no other terrorists are hiding in the vicinity.
This encounter comes just three days after another major operation in the remote Chhatru area of Kishtwar district, where security forces engaged terrorists in a fierce exchange of fire. Acting on concrete intelligence, a joint team of the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps and Jammu and Kashmir Police had launched an extensive search in the forested terrain. Officials suspect that two to three terrorists may still be hiding in the upper reaches of the region.
Meanwhile, Northern Army Commander Lt. Gen. Manoj Kumar Katiyar recently reviewed the preparedness of forward-deployed troops along the Jammu–Pathankot sector. According to defence sources quoted by PTI, he assessed troop readiness to counter any threats during the upcoming winter months, particularly in high-altitude and forested areas where terrorist activity tends to spike.
The army has intensified surveillance and counter-infiltration operations along the LoC as terrorist groups are suspected to be attempting fresh infiltrations before heavy snowfall cuts off mountain passes. Officials said that the latest success in Kupwara underscores the high level of alertness and coordination between the Indian Army and intelligence agencies.
The operation remains ongoing as security forces continue combing the dense forest area to rule out the presence of any remaining infiltrators.
