Anekal: What began as a birthday celebration ended in tragedy when a fight over settling the party bill led to a fatal assault in Vaddarapalya, under Jigani police station limits on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
According to police reports, Sandeep, who was celebrating his birthday on October 16, had gone to a bar and restaurant near Kumbarnahalli with his friends. After cutting the cake and drinking heavily, an argument broke out when it came time to pay the bill.
Sandeep reportedly told his friends he did not have enough money, which led to a heated altercation between him and Santosh. Their other friends intervened and managed to calm things down before the group dispersed.
Later that night, Sandeep went to a local volleyball court. However, Santosh, accompanied by another friend named Sagar, confronted him there and attacked him physically. Following the assault, Sandeep lodged a complaint at the Jigani police station and returned home.
Shortly after, Sandeep began vomiting and complained of severe headaches. Doctors later found that he had suffered internal bleeding in the head and a serious brain injury. Initially treated at a nearby clinic, his condition worsened, prompting doctors to refer him to St. John’s Hospital in Bengaluru, and later to Kauvery Hospital, Madiwala. Despite intensive treatment, Sandeep slipped into a coma and passed away on October 28.
Sandeep’s grieving parents demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible. Acting on the complaint, Jigani police arrested the accused duo, Santosh and Sagar, and have remanded them to Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.
The police are investigating whether the assault was premeditated and are awaiting the post-mortem report for further evidence.
