Three killed as goods vehicle crashes into tree near Shivamogga

Shivamogga: In a tragic accident on Wednesday morning, three people were killed on the spot after a goods vehicle rammed into a tree near Tavare Chatnalli and Gondi Chatnalli villages on the Honnali Road in Shivamogga district.

The deceased have been identified as Sadiq (40), Firoz (30), and Asadulla (25). According to police, the accident occurred when the driver, reportedly drowsy, lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into a roadside tree at high speed.

β€œThe impact was so severe that all three occupants died on the spot, while the driver sustained serious injuries,” said an official from the Shivamogga Rural Police Station. The injured driver, identified as Irfan (40), has been admitted to McGann Hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were returning from Koppa in Chikkamagaluru district, where they had gone for furniture work. They were just a kilometer away from reaching their residence in Tavare Chatnalli village when the accident took place.

Sadiq and Firoz were reportedly natives of Uttar Pradesh, while Asadulla hailed from Channagiri. Police said the group had been staying in Tavare Chatnalli for several days for work purposes.

The Shivamogga Rural Police visited the accident site, conducted an inquest, and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
