PSI suspended for cutting cake with rowdy sheeter to mark 10 years of service
Yadgir : In a shocking incident, Yadgir Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar has suspended Narayanpur Police Station PSI Rajasekhar Rathod after a photo of him celebrating his 10 years of service by cutting a cake with a known rowdy sheeter went viral on social media.
According to reports, PSI Rathod, posted at Narayanpur police station under Hunasagi taluk, organized a small celebration inside the police premises to mark a decade of service. During the event, he was seen cutting a cake along with Nagraj, a local rowdy sheeter listed in police records.
The images of the PSI and the criminal celebrating together quickly spread on social media platforms, drawing public criticism and embarrassment for the department. The incident sparked outrage among citizens and raised serious questions about police discipline and ethics.
Reacting swiftly to the controversy, Yadgir SP Pruthvik Shankar ordered a departmental inquiry. The preliminary investigation revealed clear evidence of misconduct and violation of service discipline. Following the findings, SP Shankar suspended PSI Rajasekhar Rathod pending further inquiry.
Sources in the police department said the PSI’s act of associating with a known criminal inside the station premises was a grave breach of protocol. “Police personnel are expected to uphold integrity and maintain distance from antisocial elements. Such behavior damages the department’s image,” an official said.
Reports also indicated that the PSI had played shuttlecock with the rowdy sheeter within the police station compound during the same event, further aggravating the issue.
The SP’s order stated that the PSI had failed to maintain the dignity of the uniform and had indulged in activities unbecoming of a police officer. The department has warned that strict disciplinary action will follow after the detailed probe concludes.
The viral images have also reignited discussions about growing indiscipline and questionable conduct within certain sections of the police force. Senior officers have emphasized that even informal gestures involving known offenders can erode public trust in law enforcement.
This suspension comes amid a series of recent controversies in the state involving police misconduct, including negligence, misuse of authority, and ethical violations. The Yadgir incident is now being cited as a reminder of the urgent need for professionalism and reform in police behavior.
The suspension order has been forwarded to the higher authorities, and departmental proceedings will continue under the supervision of senior officers. SP Shankar has also directed all station heads to strictly adhere to the police code of conduct and avoid any form of association with criminal elements, directly or indirectly.
The incident has embarrassed the local police force and sparked widespread criticism across social media platforms, with citizens demanding accountability and transparency in the disciplinary process.
Meanwhile, the suspended PSI Rathod is likely to face further internal action once the inquiry report is submitted.
