Holiday for schools: Udupi District Magistrate K. Vidyakumari has declared a holiday on June 13 for all Anganwadis, primary and high schools in Udupi district.
This action has been taken as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert. There will be no holidays for undergraduate, graduate and engineering colleges, polytechnics and ITIs.
After the southwest monsoon reactivated after a two-week hiatus, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued a seven-day warning for almost all districts of Karnataka till June 17. The IMD has warned that “fairly widespread” rainfall will occur in the southern interior districts till June 14, followed by “widespread” rainfall for the next three days.
The IMD has issued a warning of “extensive” rainfall in almost all districts of Karnataka, while a red alert has been declared in the Hubballi region of Dharwad district. In the wake of the red alert issued by the Meteorological Department, Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu has declared a one-day holiday for all Anganwadis, primary schools, high schools, and PU and degree colleges today (June 12).
IMD forecasts very heavy rainfall in these districts:
The Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rainfall in coastal and northern interior Karnataka until June 17. In Koppal, Haveri, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Kalaburgi and Raichur districts “Heavy rainfall with wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph is likely at one or two places”. In Bidar and Yadgir districts – “Moderate rainfall is likely at most places with sustained winds gusting to 40-50 kmph,” the IMD said.
