India came very close to winning the ODI World Cup in 2023 but suffered a heart-breaking defeat in the final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Kohli was named the Player of the Tournament for his record-breaking 765 runs from 11 matches at an average of 95.62, including three centuries and six half-centuries.

However, despite receiving the prestigious honour, Kohli was extremely tired after India’s defeat in the final and did not even speak during the post-match presentation. Since then, fans have been speculating whether the senior pair of Rohit Sharma and Kohli will continue to play ODIs until the next World Cup.

However, India’s victory in the recent ICC Champions Trophy has almost paved the way for the pair to continue their careers till the 2027 World Cup. Kohli once again appeared in good form in the tournament, playing match-winning innings against Pakistan and Australia.

On the other hand, after failing to perform well in the league stages, captain Rohit rose to the occasion by playing a remarkable innings of 76 (83) runs in the final against New Zealand. With the help of his century, India reached the target of 252 runs in 49 overs and won the Champions Trophy for the third time.

With the next major ODI tournament two years away, both Rohit and Kohli will be looking to continue their fine form and achieve another feat in the most prestigious trophy in the cricketing world in 2027.
