The application, developed jointly by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and the Department of e-Governance, was officially launched by Food and Civil Supplies Minister Rizwan Arshad. From October 14, the app has been made available to beneficiaries across all 31 districts of Karnataka.

The digital platform was initially introduced on a pilot basis in eight districts, where it received a positive response. Following the successful trial, the facility has now been expanded statewide. Beneficiaries can download the Anna Seve app from the Google Play Store and complete their e-KYC using Face Authentication technology.

The initiative is expected to be particularly beneficial for migrant workers and people staying away from their hometowns, as they can now complete the process remotely. The Food Department has also clarified that even those who completed e-KYC a year ago must update it again, as per the latest guidelines.

To avoid any disruption in the distribution of ration benefits, the department has urged all beneficiaries whose e-KYC is still pending to complete the process before the October 20 deadline.

The Karnataka Food Department has officially fixed October 20 as the last date for completing e-KYC. However, since only around 60% of beneficiaries have completed the process so far and lakhs of beneficiaries are yet to update their records, there is a possibility that the deadline may be extended.

The Anna Seve app has received an encouraging response during its pilot phase. Between October 1 and October 12, a total of 160,267 beneficiaries across the eight pilot districts successfully completed their e-KYC through the application. With the app now available across all districts, the department expects the pace of e-KYC completion to increase significantly.

According to the Food Department, 206,76,278 beneficiaries out of a total of 267,64,276 beneficiaries in Karnataka had completed their e-KYC as of October 12. The department has reiterated that beneficiaries who completed e-KYC more than a year ago are also required to undergo the verification process again.
