Chikkaballapur Lake Land Scam Worth Rs 100 Crore Under Investigation

A government land controversy in Chikkaballapur has taken a serious turn after an official inquiry reportedly found irregularities in the handling of 24 acres of lake land at Anakanur village.

The land, located in Survey Number 109 of Anakanur village under Kasaba Hobli in Chikkaballapur taluk, is identified as Amanigopalakrishna Lake and classified as government B Kharab land. The property is reportedly worth more than Rs 100 crore.

The inquiry was initiated after allegations emerged that records relating to the government lake land were allegedly created and an e Khata was issued in favour of a private individual. The land falls under the jurisdiction of the Revenue Department and is reportedly outside the limits of the Chikkaballapur City Municipal Council.

According to the investigation, officials allegedly acted beyond their jurisdiction while processing the property records. The names mentioned in connection with the inquiry include Municipal Commissioner Mansoor Ali, tax collector Venkatesh, Revenue Inspector V R Venkatesh and retired revenue official Nataraj.

The investigation reportedly concluded that documents connected with the property were created improperly and that an e Khata was issued to a private party despite the nature of the land. The findings have raised questions over how government lake property could be processed for private ownership through municipal records.

The controversy gained wider attention after media reports highlighted the alleged irregularities. Following the reports, Chikkaballapur Deputy Commissioner Prabhu G ordered an investigation and constituted a team to examine the allegations and the documents involved.

After receiving the inquiry report, the Deputy Commissioner submitted a report to the state government recommending strict legal action against officials allegedly involved in the matter.

The recommendation has now become a key development in the case, as the state government is expected to examine the findings before deciding on further action. The issue has also triggered demands for stronger measures to protect government lake land from encroachment or unauthorised transactions.

However, complainant and social activist Ameer Mohammed Sadiq has expressed dissatisfaction with the action recommended by the district administration. He has argued that stronger immediate measures should have been taken against officials allegedly responsible for the irregularities.

Sadiq has also said that criminal proceedings should be considered against those allegedly involved. He has indicated that he may approach the Karnataka High Court through a public interest litigation seeking appropriate action.

The controversy has drawn attention from local residents because the land involved is government lake property. Residents have urged the state government to examine the entire transaction carefully and take strict action if the allegations and findings are confirmed.

The case also highlights concerns over the handling of government land records and the need for coordination between municipal and revenue authorities. Questions are likely to remain over how an e Khata could be processed for land that was classified as government property and reportedly remained under the Revenue Department.

Authorities will now have to examine the investigation findings, supporting documents and the roles of the officials named in the report. Any further disciplinary or criminal action will depend on the outcome of the government review and applicable legal procedures.

With the alleged land value exceeding Rs 100 crore, the matter has attracted considerable public attention in Chikkaballapur. The demand from residents and activists is that the government protect the lake property and ensure accountability if wrongdoing is established.
