Karnataka Government Marks 100 Days With Grand Illumination Across Heritage Buildings

Major heritage landmarks across Karnataka are set to take on a festive appearance as the state government prepares to mark 100 days in office under Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. The Information and Public Relations Department has planned special illumination at several prominent locations beginning September 10.

The programme will continue for four days and will cover important public buildings, historical monuments and major infrastructure sites across the state. Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru and Mysore Palace are among the key landmarks selected for the celebration.

The lighting arrangements will not be limited to decorative displays. Selected locations will also feature LED presentations, sound and light shows and three dimensional mapping programmes. These presentations are expected to focus on the governments development initiatives and the progress of the five guarantee schemes.

Several other well known locations will also be part of the celebration. Bengaluru Town Hall, the KR Puram suspension bridge, Mysore Palace and the Jayamarthanda gateway are among the places that will receive special lighting arrangements.

The historic Virupaksha temple tower at Hampi, particularly the Bishtappayya Gopura, will also be illuminated. In Kalaburagi, the Deputy Commissioners office and Jagat Circle have been included in the plans. The government has also said that district administrations in different parts of Karnataka are making their own arrangements to mark the occasion.

The four day programme comes as the government highlights the work carried out during its first 100 days. According to the Information Department, several measures have been taken during this period, including steps aimed at improving public services and strengthening the implementation of welfare programmes.

Among the initiatives highlighted by the department is the introduction of free bus passes for students. The government has also established the Prajaseva department to receive public grievances and complaints and work towards their resolution.

Officials have also pointed to measures intended to reduce leakages in the implementation of guarantee schemes. Steps have reportedly been taken to strengthen monitoring and ensure that the benefits reach eligible beneficiaries more effectively.

Law and order measures have also featured in the governments list of achievements. District level teams have been formed as part of efforts to control activities involving rowdy elements and improve policing responses.

The government has also highlighted its approach towards issues involving the Centre. During the NITI Aayog meeting, Karnataka reportedly placed several demands and concerns before the Union government.

Another area mentioned by the department is the new CSR policy. Preparations for managing drought conditions have also received attention, with officials conducting division wise reviews and assessing the requirements in different regions.

Tourism has been another focus, particularly along the coastal belt. The government has said it is giving special attention to coastal tourism as part of its wider efforts to increase economic activity and attract more visitors.

The Tungabhadra reservoir has also featured prominently among the developments highlighted by the government. New spillway gates were inaugurated near Hospet at the Tungabhadra reservoir, an important water source for farmers in Koppal, Raichur, Vijayanagara and Ballari districts as well as neighbouring parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The project was also presented as a symbol of cooperation between the neighbouring states.

The government has further promoted the Beyond Bengaluru approach, with efforts aimed at encouraging industries to establish operations in second and third tier cities. The objective is to spread industrial growth beyond the state capital and create more opportunities in other urban centres.

Employment has also been included among the key areas highlighted during the 100 day review. The Information Department said steps have been initiated towards recruitment to around 72,000 government posts.

The celebrations are therefore expected to combine public displays with a presentation of the governments policy and development agenda. While the illumination will provide a visual highlight at major landmarks, the LED presentations and mapping shows will focus attention on the schemes and programmes the government wants people to associate with its first 100 days.

According to a statement issued by Information Department Commissioner M N Anucheth, the government has undertaken several programmes during the period, covering public services, welfare delivery, employment, tourism, industrial development, water management and law and order.

With the celebrations beginning on September 10, residents and visitors at the selected landmarks can expect a noticeably different appearance during the four day programme. The initiative is designed to turn some of Karnatakas best known public and heritage locations into prominent centres of the 100 day celebrations.
