Foldable iPhone Ultra May Cost Over Rs 2 Lakh But Could Miss Some Popular Features

Apple is preparing to enter the foldable smartphone market at a time when demand for foldable devices continues to grow. The company is expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone at its September 9 launch event, although Apple has not officially confirmed the product or its final name.

Reports have suggested that the device could be marketed as the iPhone Ultra and carry a starting price above 2,000 dollars. For Indian buyers, that could translate into a price of around Rs 2 lakh or more after considering currency conversion and other market factors.

The expected pricing makes the device one of the most expensive smartphones in Apples lineup. But spending that much may not necessarily mean getting every feature available on the companys Pro models.

One of the biggest compromises could involve the biometric authentication system. Apple may reportedly skip Face ID on the foldable model because of the space and engineering challenges involved in fitting the required hardware into an extremely thin design.

Instead, the company could use Touch ID integrated into the power button. Such a move would mark a notable change from recent iPhone models, which have relied heavily on Face ID for secure authentication.

Pricing could become an important factor in this competition. The Xiaomi 18 Fold is reported to start at 10,999 yuan in China, which is roughly Rs 1.5 lakh based on the figures available in the source. That puts it below the expected price of Apples first foldable iPhone.

Apple will therefore have to convince buyers that its software experience, ecosystem and premium design justify the higher cost. The companys reputation could help it attract customers, but expectations will also be high because this is its first attempt at a foldable smartphone.
