Eight Get Life Sentences In Bengaluru Murder Case Linked To Cigarette Dispute

A long pending murder case in Bengaluru has ended with the conviction and life imprisonment of eight accused. The case dates back to 2017 and began with an argument over smoking in the Shantinagar area.

The victim, identified as Harish, had reportedly become involved in a dispute with a group of people over the issue. The argument escalated, after which the group assaulted him and he died from the attack.

Following the incident, Ashoknagar police registered a murder case and began an investigation. Police subsequently arrested 13 accused in connection with the case, including three juveniles, and submitted a chargesheet before the court.

The matter then went through a lengthy judicial process. After examining the evidence and material presented during the trial, the 59th City Civil and Sessions Court concluded that the murder charges against the main accused had been established.

The court subsequently sentenced eight of the adult accused to life imprisonment. The three juveniles connected with the case were dealt with separately under the applicable juvenile justice process.

The verdict brings a conclusion to a case that began with what was initially a dispute over smoking but eventually resulted in a fatal assault. The court’s decision followed consideration of the evidence collected during the police investigation and presented during the trial.

The case highlights how a seemingly minor disagreement can escalate into a serious criminal incident. With the conviction of the eight accused, the court has now delivered its judgment after years of proceedings.
