UGC NET 2026 Result Released for 84 Subjects, Retest Set for Three Papers

The National Testing Agency has declared the results of the June 2026 UGC NET examination for 84 subjects, giving thousands of candidates access to their scorecards and qualification status.

More than six lakh candidates appeared for the examination, according to the information released by the testing agency. Of these, over 97,000 candidates have reportedly qualified for PhD admission, while more than 4,000 candidates have secured eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship.

Candidates who appeared for the examination can check their individual scores through the official NTA website using their examination credentials.

Results Withheld for Three Subjects

The results for English, Commerce and Sociology have not been released along with the other subjects. The decision follows concerns over errors identified in the question papers.

According to the examination authorities, issues including grammatical mistakes, incorrect translations and technical problems were reported in the papers. Following recommendations from an expert committee, NTA decided that candidates appearing for these three subjects should be given another opportunity through a fresh examination.

The retest schedule has now been announced. The English and Commerce examinations will be conducted on September 9, while the Sociology examination is scheduled for September 10.

No Additional Examination Fee

Candidates who have to appear for the retest will not be required to pay another examination fee. This is expected to provide some relief to students who have already completed the application and examination process.

NTA is expected to release fresh admit cards and examination centre details on its official website ahead of the retest. Candidates affected by the decision will need to check the latest updates and download their revised examination documents when they become available.

No Impact on Already Released Results

The testing agency has also clarified that the retest for the three subjects will not affect the results already declared for the other 84 subjects.

Candidates who have qualified through the results already announced can proceed with the eligibility process for assistant professor positions and other relevant academic opportunities according to the applicable rules.

The decision to conduct a separate examination for the three affected subjects is aimed at addressing the reported question paper issues while ensuring that candidates receive a fair opportunity to compete.
