Basavaraj Rayareddy Calls Islam A Great Religion And Shares Desire To Visit Hajj

Karnataka minister Basavaraj Rayareddy has drawn attention with remarks about religion during a mass wedding programme organised by the Muslim community in Kuknoor, Koppal district. The minister, who has recently been in the news for political statements, spoke at length about Islam, religious understanding and the need for people to respect positive values across different faiths.

During his speech, Rayareddy said he considers Islam a great religion and expressed his personal desire to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage. He also spoke about his willingness to study the Quran, while explaining that people should not develop negative perceptions about a religion without understanding its teachings.

Rayareddy said the Quran contains teachings about how people should conduct themselves in society. He also stated that the Quran should not simply be viewed as a text meant for one particular group and said that anyone interested in learning about it should have the opportunity to study it.

The minister also spoke about his own approach toward places of worship. He said that people should not measure their religious commitment merely by visiting a mosque or a temple. According to him, the more important aspect is to understand and follow the positive principles found across different religions.

His comments came after he had previously attracted political attention over discussions surrounding a possible change in Karnataka’s chief ministerial leadership. This time, however, his remarks focused mainly on religion and social harmony.

Rayareddy also urged people not to become driven by religious intolerance or caste divisions. He said people should treat one another with affection and respect rather than allowing religious differences to create conflict.

Speaking at the same programme, minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah highlighted the development of the Muslim community. He said the community has a significant population but continues to face development challenges and argued that improving its social and economic conditions should remain a priority.

Yathindra also said that the government under Siddaramaiah had increased financial support for the Muslim community. He praised Rayareddy’s contribution toward community development and described him as someone who has a good understanding of Islam.

The speeches also touched on the relationship between religion and politics. Yathindra said people should not allow political interests to turn religious differences into conflict. He argued that all people share a common creator and should therefore treat others with compassion.

The remarks are likely to attract political discussion because religious issues remain a sensitive subject in Karnataka politics. However, the central theme of the programme was community welfare, religious understanding and the importance of maintaining harmony between different sections of society.
