Bengaluru Traffic Police Crack Down on Drunk Water Tanker Drivers

Bengaluru traffic police have stepped up enforcement against water tanker drivers driving after consuming alcohol. A special checking operation was conducted on Friday morning as part of efforts to improve road safety and prevent accidents involving heavy vehicles.

The operation was carried out between 6 am and 9 am, during which traffic personnel checked 1,476 water tankers across the city. Of the drivers screened, 40 were booked for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police said the driving licences of the drivers facing action will be forwarded to the respective Regional Transport Offices for possible suspension. Authorities are treating the matter seriously because water tankers operate on busy city roads and any loss of control can put other motorists and pedestrians at risk.

More Checks Planned

The traffic police are expected to continue similar enforcement drives in the coming days. Officials said the purpose is not only to take action against drivers found violating the law but also to discourage tanker operators from driving after drinking.

Water tankers are an important part of Bengaluru’s daily transport network, particularly when demand for water rises. Because these vehicles frequently operate during early morning hours, police checks during that period can help identify violations before they lead to serious road safety problems.

Traffic Restrictions Expected on August 29 and 30

Meanwhile, Bengaluru traffic police have also issued an advisory about possible congestion on Suranjandas Road and Old Airport Road.

Traffic movement may be affected on August 29 between 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm and again on August 30 between 7 am and 8 am due to the movement of dignitaries.

Motorists using these roads have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow additional travel time.

No Parking on Both Sides

Police have also stated that vehicles will not be permitted to park on either side of the affected roads during the specified period.

The advisory is aimed at keeping traffic movement manageable while the scheduled movement takes place. Commuters travelling through the Old Airport Road and Suranjandas Road stretches are therefore likely to benefit from checking the traffic situation before starting their journey.

The combination of stricter checks on tanker drivers and traffic management measures comes as Bengaluru traffic authorities continue to focus on road safety and smoother movement across the city.
