Karnataka Weather Update Coastal And Malnad Districts Face Heavy Rain Alert

The monsoon has remained active over Karnataka, bringing another round of rainfall to several parts of the state on August 25. The India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain warning for parts of Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka, along with warnings for thunderstorms and strong surface winds.

Coastal districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are among the areas that could receive heavy rain. Parts of the Malnad region, including Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu, are also expected to see showers.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre has also issued a yellow alert for several coastal and Malnad areas.

Coastal And Malnad Areas Need Caution

The forecast suggests isolated heavy rain in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, with winds potentially reaching around 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.

Shivamogga could see heavier showers accompanied by stronger winds of around 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu may also receive heavy rain at isolated locations.

With rain and gusty winds expected together, residents in these districts have been advised to remain cautious, particularly while travelling or during outdoor activities.

Rain Chances Across North Karnataka

Rain is not expected to remain limited to the coast. Parts of Vijayapura, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Dharwad and Gadag may receive moderate showers.

Bagalkot, Bidar, Haveri, Koppal, Raichur and Yadgir could also see rainfall at some locations. Thunderstorms and strong winds are possible in parts of the interior districts.

Bengaluru May Also Receive Showers

Several South Interior Karnataka districts are likely to experience moderate rainfall. Bengaluru Urban, Tumakuru, Davanagere, Mandya and Mysuru could see showers accompanied by winds reaching 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.

Bengaluru Rural, Ballari, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Hassan, Kolar, Ramanagara and Vijayanagara may also receive rain, with winds potentially reaching 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.

What To Expect On August 26

Rain is expected to continue in parts of Coastal Karnataka on August 26, although the IMD warning for Coastal Karnataka is currently limited to August 25.

Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada could continue to receive showers. Parts of Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu may also see isolated rainfall.

Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag and Haveri could receive rain in a few places, while several other northern districts are likely to remain mostly dry.

Recent Heavy Rainfall In Karnataka

Rainfall recorded during the previous 24 hour period also shows that several parts of the state have already received substantial showers. The IMD has reported heavy rainfall over isolated parts of Coastal Karnataka, while rainfall was also observed across other regions.

With more rain expected in coastal and Malnad districts, commuters and motorists should remain alert in areas prone to waterlogging, slippery roads and strong winds. The weather situation is expected to remain active in parts of Karnataka over the next couple of days.
