OnePlus is preparing its next flagship smartphone, and the OnePlus 16 is already attracting attention for its display technology. The company has teased a 165Hz high refresh rate along with gaming focused capabilities, but recent leaks suggest the final specification could go even higher.
Reports indicate that OnePlus is testing a display capable of reaching 185Hz. That would put the upcoming model ahead of the OnePlus 15, which already introduced a 165Hz refresh rate. Earlier speculation had pointed to an even higher 240Hz panel, although 185Hz now appears to be the more likely possibility.
A higher refresh rate could make everyday interactions feel more fluid, particularly when scrolling through apps or playing games that support high frame rates. However, the difference will depend heavily on whether games and applications are designed to take advantage of the additional refresh rate.
Gaming appears to be a major focus for the new phone. OnePlus has highlighted technologies such as the Wind Chaser Gaming Core and E Sports Triple Chip System alongside its high refresh rate display technology. These additions suggest the company is looking beyond screen specifications alone to improve sustained gaming performance.
The display itself is expected to measure around 6.78 inches and could use a 1.5K BOE LTPO panel. Leaks also point to extremely slim bezels, potentially measuring less than 1mm on each side. LTPO technology could help balance the high refresh rate with battery efficiency by allowing the screen refresh rate to adjust according to the content being displayed.
There may be significant changes under the hood as well. The OnePlus 16 is rumoured to use a next generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset. Such a processor could give the phone a substantial performance boost, although the exact configuration has not been officially confirmed.
Battery life could also become one of the phone’s strongest features. Some reports have mentioned a 9000mAh battery, while another major upgrade could be a 200 megapixel periscope telephoto camera. These specifications remain part of the leak cycle for now, so they should be treated cautiously until OnePlus provides more details.
If the reported specifications come together, the OnePlus 16 could be positioned as a particularly aggressive flagship for users who care about gaming, display smoothness and long battery life. More details are expected as the launch approaches.
