Mangaluru: Officials of the Karnataka Lokayukta carried out surprise inspections at the Tahsildar offices of all nine taluks in Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday, examining files and official records as part of a statewide anti-corruption probe.

The raids were launched following complaints submitted to the State Lokayukta alleging irregularities and malpractice in several Tahsildar offices across the district. Acting on these complaints, the Lokayukta registered a suo motu case and, on the directions of the State Lokayukta, teams simultaneously inspected all nine Tahsildar offices.

Speaking to the media, the Lokayukta Superintendent of Police (SP) said that several documents were recovered during the inspections. These records will be forwarded to the Lokayukta headquarters in Bengaluru for further examination and necessary action.

As part of the operation, a team of Lokayukta officials visited the Moodbidri Tahsildar office and reviewed its overall functioning as well as the basic amenities provided to the public. The officials inspected facilities such as public toilets, cleanliness, and drinking water arrangements. They also sought information from senior officials on various administrative matters.

The team gathered details regarding staff shortages at the office and examined the office diary along with several official files to assess administrative procedures and efficiency. Officials also interacted with members of the public to collect feedback on the quality of services and infrastructure available at the Tahsildar office.
