Nandi Hills Traffic Alert: Weekend Visitors Asked To Postpone Sunday Trip

Weekend plans to visit Nandi Hills may need to be changed this Sunday as the Chikkaballapur district administration has announced temporary restrictions on vehicle movement in the area. The restrictions have been introduced in view of the Nandi Hills Monsoon Marathon scheduled for August 9.

The popular hill destination attracts a large number of visitors from Bengaluru and nearby districts, especially during the monsoon season. The cool weather, greenery and misty surroundings often make Nandi Hills a preferred weekend destination. However, tourists planning to travel there this Sunday have been advised to reconsider their plans because regular vehicle movement will not be permitted during the event period.

According to the district administration order, traffic restrictions will begin at 11 pm on August 8 and continue until 12 noon on August 9. During this period, vehicles will not be allowed to travel towards Nandi Hills from Karahalli Cross. The restriction has been introduced to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the marathon.

The event is expected to attract a large gathering, with more than 4,500 athletes likely to participate. The marathon will feature two major race categories covering distances of 10 kilometres and 21 kilometres. With participants expected to arrive from different locations, the administration has taken steps to regulate traffic and reduce the possibility of congestion on the hill road.

Only vehicles associated with registered marathon participants and carrying the required passes will be permitted to enter the restricted stretch. Other private vehicles and tourist vehicles will not be allowed to proceed towards Nandi Hills during the specified period.

The traffic restriction is particularly important because the road leading to the hill has limited space compared with normal city roads. Allowing regular tourist traffic alongside thousands of runners and support vehicles could create significant congestion and safety concerns. The administration has therefore decided to temporarily restrict general vehicle movement.

The Chikkaballapur district administration has been preparing for the marathon for several days. Officials are expected to coordinate traffic management, event arrangements and other safety measures to ensure that participants can complete the race without unnecessary disruption.

Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara is scheduled to flag off the marathon. The presence of a large number of participants is expected to make the hill area considerably busier than a regular Sunday.

For regular tourists, the restriction means that visiting Nandi Hills during the specified period will not be possible in the usual manner. People who normally leave Bengaluru early in the morning for a weekend trip may therefore want to select another destination or postpone their visit until the restrictions are lifted.

The timing of the restriction is also significant. Since the ban begins late on Saturday night, visitors planning an early Sunday morning trip should not assume that the road will be open. The restriction will remain in place until noon on Sunday, meaning the first half of the day will be affected.

Nandi Hills is one of the most popular tourist attractions around Bengaluru and receives particularly strong visitor interest during the rainy season. The monsoon often transforms the surrounding landscape, making the hill station an attractive destination for families, friends and nature enthusiasts.
