Bengaluru Air Quality Remains Stable as Mysuru and Mangaluru Record Cleaner Air
Air quality across Karnataka remained satisfactory today with Bengaluru reporting moderate pollution while Mysuru and Mangaluru enjoyed cleaner conditions following recent rainfall and favorable weather patterns statewide.

Air quality across Karnataka has remained largely stable, bringing encouraging news for residents in Bengaluru and several other major cities. Recent rainfall combined with changing wind patterns has helped keep pollution levels under control, resulting in healthier air across much of the state. According to the latest Air Quality Index readings, Bengaluru continues to remain in the satisfactory category, while cities such as Mysuru and Mangaluru have recorded even cleaner air conditions.
Environmental experts have pointed out that consistent monsoon showers have played an important role in improving atmospheric conditions. Rain helps remove suspended dust particles and other pollutants from the air, allowing residents to experience fresher weather. As a result, many cities that usually witness moderate pollution have reported healthier air quality in recent days.
In Bengaluru, the Air Quality Index today has remained within the satisfactory range, with average readings between 55 and 70. These figures indicate that pollution levels are under control and the air is considered safe for most people. Residents across the city have experienced pleasant weather following intermittent rain, which has contributed to improved visibility and reduced airborne dust.
Different parts of Bengaluru have reported slightly varying AQI levels. Areas around Hebbal and Silk Board recorded readings ranging from 55 to 63, while BTM Layout and Jayanagar remained between 58 and 65. Whitefield and the Peenya industrial region reported relatively higher readings of around 68 to 74, though they still fall within the moderate category and remain well below hazardous pollution levels.
Health experts note that the current air quality is suitable for regular outdoor activities for most people. Morning walks, cycling, jogging, and other physical activities can generally be carried out without significant concern. However, individuals suffering from asthma, chronic respiratory illnesses, or severe allergies are still advised to avoid prolonged exposure outdoors during periods of heavy traffic or dust accumulation, especially near busy roads and industrial areas.
The improvement is not limited to Bengaluru alone. Several other major cities across Karnataka have also reported healthy air quality levels today. Mysuru has emerged as one of the cleanest cities in the state, registering an AQI of around 45, which falls in the Good category. The city’s relatively lower traffic density, green surroundings, and recent rainfall have contributed to cleaner atmospheric conditions.
Mangaluru has also maintained excellent air quality with an AQI of approximately 48. Continuous rainfall along the coastal region has significantly reduced dust particles and airborne pollutants, creating a fresh environment for both residents and visitors. Coastal districts have consistently benefited from strong sea breezes and regular showers, helping maintain cleaner air throughout the monsoon season.
Hubballi Dharwad has recorded an AQI of around 58, placing it within the satisfactory range. Although the city experiences moderate commercial and vehicular activity, pollution levels remain well under acceptable limits. Belagavi has registered an AQI close to 73, which also falls within the moderate category but remains safe for the general population.
Northern Karnataka districts including Kalaburagi and Ballari have reported AQI readings between 71 and 75. These areas generally experience relatively drier weather compared to the coastal and Malnad regions, allowing dust particles to remain suspended in the atmosphere for longer periods. Industrial activity and traffic movement also contribute to slightly higher pollution levels. Nevertheless, the current readings remain far below severe pollution categories.
Environmental specialists believe that the ongoing monsoon has been one of the biggest factors behind the improvement in air quality throughout Karnataka. Rainfall naturally washes away pollutants while stronger winds disperse harmful particles more effectively. This seasonal cleansing process has helped maintain healthier conditions in both urban and rural areas across the state.
Officials continue to encourage citizens to monitor daily AQI updates, particularly individuals with respiratory conditions, elderly people, and young children. While the present air quality is considered satisfactory, pollution levels can fluctuate depending on weather conditions, traffic volume, construction activity, and industrial emissions. Staying informed allows residents to plan outdoor activities more effectively.
Experts also emphasize that long term improvements in air quality require continuous efforts beyond seasonal rainfall. Expanding green cover, promoting public transport, reducing vehicle emissions, controlling construction dust, and encouraging cleaner industrial practices remain essential for maintaining healthy air throughout the year. Temporary improvements during the monsoon are encouraging, but sustained environmental management is necessary to preserve these gains.
For now, Karnataka residents can take comfort in the state’s improved atmospheric conditions. Bengaluru continues to enjoy manageable pollution levels, while Mysuru and Mangaluru have recorded some of the cleanest air among the state’s major cities. With favorable weather expected to continue in many regions, outdoor conditions remain comfortable for most residents, making this an ideal time for recreational activities while still following basic health precautions for those with existing respiratory concerns.
The latest AQI readings demonstrate that Karnataka’s air quality remains stable and healthier than in many previous dry weather periods. Continued rainfall and responsible environmental practices could help maintain these positive conditions in the coming weeks.
