Google explained through a blog post that selfie video verification will work as an additional sign in option for account recovery.
To activate the feature, users will need to set up selfie verification in their Google account settings. During the setup process, users will be asked to record a short selfie video using their device camera. They may need to move their head in different directions, such as turning left and right or making specific movements, allowing Google to capture multiple angles of their face.
Later, if users face trouble signing into their accounts, they can record another selfie video for verification. Google will compare the new video with the one saved during the setup process to confirm that the person attempting to access the account is the original account owner.
The move reflects a wider shift in the technology industry toward biometric based identity verification. Several companies are exploring alternatives to traditional passwords, as face recognition and other biometric methods are considered more convenient and secure for online account access.
