COVID Scare Returns: Just when it seemed the world had moved on from the COVID-19 pandemic, fresh concerns have emerged in South India. Andhra Pradesh is witnessing a renewed rise in COVID-19 cases, prompting neighbouring Karnataka to step up precautionary measures.
According to reports, two people have died due to COVID-19 in Andhra Pradesh, leading the state’s health authorities to remain on high alert. In Karnataka, 32 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed so far. Health officials tested 193 suspected individuals, of whom 32 were found positive for the virus.
To prevent the spread of the infection, the Health Department has intensified surveillance and precautionary measures across the state. Authorities have also increased monitoring of people entering Karnataka from Andhra Pradesh.
A special checkpost has been set up at Pavagada, where health officials and ASHA workers are conducting thermal screening of travellers arriving from border areas, including Nagalamadike, Rajavanti, and Kodamadagu. Travellers showing elevated body temperature or other symptoms during thermal screening are being restricted from entering Karnataka until further medical evaluation.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka Health Department clarified that although 32 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the past 10 days, a small number of infections are expected to continue even after the pandemic. Officials urged the public not to panic but to remain cautious, follow basic preventive measures, and seek medical attention if symptoms develop.
