Yellow Alert issued for 8 Karnataka districts due to heavy rain Today

The India Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for eight Karnataka districts as heavy rainfall is expected today, urging residents, motorists, and fishermen to take necessary precautionary measures.

The southwest monsoon has intensified across Karnataka, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a Yellow Alert for eight districts on July 10. According to the weather forecast, several parts of the coastal and Malnad regions are likely to receive heavy rainfall during the day.

The districts under the Yellow Alert are Belagavi, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikkamagaluru. Rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.4 mm is expected in isolated locations, according to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre.

Authorities have advised people living in low-lying areas and along riverbanks to remain alert as heavy showers may lead to localized flooding. Local administrations have also been asked to stay prepared for any weather-related emergencies.

In addition to heavy rain, coastal districts may experience strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph. The IMD has urged fishermen not to venture into the sea until weather conditions improve, citing safety concerns.

Motorists travelling through ghat sections have also been advised to exercise caution due to poor visibility, slippery roads, and the possibility of landslides in vulnerable areas. Officials have requested the public to follow weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
