Elderly Woman Allegedly Raped and Murdered in Kolar as Police Detain Suspect

A seventy year old woman was found dead in Kolar after allegedly being sexually assaulted, prompting an intensive police investigation and renewed concerns over crime and drug abuse in the region.

A shocking crime has stunned Kolar district after a seventy year old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered while she had gone to collect fodder from a nearby plantation. The incident was reported on Tuesday evening within the limits of the Vemagal Police Station.

The victim, identified as Narayanamma from Chakarasanahalli village near Vemagal, was later found dead in a eucalyptus grove. Police said the body was discovered in a partially unclothed condition, raising strong suspicion of sexual assault before the murder.

Police have taken one suspect into custody and are questioning him in connection with the case. Investigators suspect the crime may have been committed under the influence of alcohol or narcotic substances, though the exact motive is yet to be established. Officials said further investigation is underway and forensic evidence is being examined.

According to the victim’s family, Narayanamma did not return home even by evening after leaving for the plantation. Concerned family members searched for her before her body was eventually located. Her son stated that she had no known personal disputes or long standing enmity with anyone and believes the killing may have been intentional.

Police teams, including the dog squad and crime investigation personnel, visited the scene to collect evidence. Search operations are continuing to identify anyone else who may have been involved in the crime.

Some relatives have expressed suspicion about workers staying in a nearby shed close to the village, although police have not officially confirmed any link. Authorities have urged the public not to speculate while the investigation is in progress.

A criminal case has been registered at the Vemagal Police Station, and officers say all possible angles are being examined before reaching any conclusion.

The incident has also revived public concern following a similar case involving the alleged rape and murder of another elderly woman in Srinivasapura in Kolar district about six months ago. Family members of the victim have demanded swift action against those responsible and called for stronger measures to curb illegal drug activity in the region, which they believe is contributing to serious crimes.
