Heavy Rain Forces School and College Holidays Across Several Karnataka Districts

Heavy monsoon rainfall has prompted district administrations across Karnataka to suspend classes in several schools and colleges as authorities prioritise student safety amid widespread rain alerts and flooding concerns.

Heavy monsoon showers continued to lash several parts of Karnataka, prompting district administrations to declare holidays for schools and colleges in multiple regions. With persistent rainfall, weather alerts, and the possibility of rain related incidents, officials have taken precautionary measures to ensure the safety of students.

In Uttara Kannada district, a Red Alert remains in effect due to intense rainfall. The district administration has declared a holiday for anganwadis, primary schools, and high schools in Sirsi, Siddapur, Joida, Dandeli, and Yellapur taluks. Authorities said the decision was taken after continuous heavy rain affected normal life in these areas.

Chikkamagaluru district has also witnessed relentless rain across its Malnad region. As a precaution, holidays have been announced for anganwadis, primary schools, and high schools in Koppa, Sringeri, and Kalasa taluks. Officials said the move is aimed at protecting students from weather related risks.

Belagavi district has recorded widespread rainfall over the past few days. The district administration has suspended classes in all anganwadis, schools, and pre university colleges in Belagavi and Khanapur taluks, covering both urban and rural areas. The decision follows forecasts predicting continued heavy rainfall across the Western Ghats region and Belagavi city.

In Shivamogga district, authorities have declared holidays for educational institutions in Sagar, Tirthahalli, and Hosanagara taluks due to continuous rainfall. The order applies to anganwadis, primary schools, high schools, and colleges. School managements have also been advised to make up for the lost academic day at a later date.

Meanwhile, in Hassan district, all schools and colleges in Sakleshpur taluk have been closed after several days of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds. The holiday applies to anganwadis, primary schools, high schools, and colleges as officials continue to monitor the weather situation closely.

With the southwest monsoon remaining active across Karnataka, district administrations have urged residents to stay alert, follow official weather advisories, and avoid unnecessary travel in areas experiencing heavy rainfall. Educational institutions are expected to resume normal operations once weather conditions improve and authorities declare it safe.
