A daycare centre in Bengaluru has come under police investigation after disturbing videos allegedly showing the abuse of toddlers surfaced online. The incident has shocked parents across the country and reignited concerns about the safety of children at childcare facilities.
According to the allegations, daycare staff subjected young children to cruel treatment instead of comforting them. Some of the viral videos appear to show crying toddlers being placed inside a washing machine with its door shut, an act that has drawn widespread condemnation.
The videos also allegedly show staff using a toilet jet spray to splash water on children’s faces in an attempt to silence or discipline them. The footage has triggered outrage on social media, with many demanding strict action against those responsible.
Officials believe the videos originated from CCTV footage or internal recordings from the daycare centre. After the clips spread online, parents expressed concern about the conditions under which children were being cared for while they were at work.
Acting on the complaints, Bengaluru Police registered a case against the daycare management and the staff involved. Authorities said the investigation is being conducted under provisions related to cruelty against children and other applicable laws. They assured that appropriate legal action would be taken if the allegations are established.
Child welfare experts have urged parents to carefully assess daycare centres before enrolling their children. They recommend checking security arrangements, CCTV monitoring, staff credentials and regularly observing children’s behaviour for any signs of distress or abuse.
Children between two and three years old made to sit in the drum of a front-loading washing machine, water sprayed into their mouths with a toilet jet spray, and locked in bathrooms – these were the inhuman punishments allegedly meted out at a daycare centre in Bengaluru.
