Friend Killed Over Party Demand

A celebration over the birth of a baby boy turned tragic in Belagavi's Bailhongal taluk, where an argument over a party demand ended with a man allegedly killing his friend.

A shocking murder has been reported from Vannur village in Bailhongal taluk of Belagavi district, where a minor argument between two friends allegedly ended in a brutal killing.

The deceased has been identified as Hanamantappa Yamanappa Itagi. Police have arrested his friend, Vishwanath Poojeri, in connection with the murder. The accused is currently being questioned by the Nesargi Police.

According to preliminary information, both men were sitting together in the village after consuming alcohol. During their conversation, Hanamantappa reportedly asked Vishwanath to host a party to celebrate the birth of his baby boy. The discussion soon turned into a heated argument.

During the altercation, Hanamantappa’s hand allegedly struck Vishwanath’s eye, further provoking him. In a fit of anger, Vishwanath is said to have picked up a nearby stone and hit Hanamantappa on the head. The victim suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot.

The incident has cast a shadow over the Muharram celebrations in the village. After the crime, the accused reportedly fled the scene but was later traced and arrested by the Nesargi Police. A case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress.
